Screen Shopping Now Easier with our Screen Search Tool http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/03/18/screen-shopping-now-easier-with-our-screen-search-tool/ http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/03/18/screen-shopping-now-easier-with-our-screen-search-tool/#comments Thu, 18 Mar 2010 19:12:31 +0000 Administrator http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/?p=255 With so many options available, finding the right projection screen for your needs can be very difficult on your own. We hope to make the search a little easier with Focused Technology’s exclusive Projection Screen Search Tool.

Start your search by selecting one or more of the sub-categories under the type of screen (Motorized, Pull Down, Portable, or Fixed Wall) that you need for your application.

Here are some brief explanations of each sub-category:

Motorized Projection Screens:

  • Wall Mounted: – Wall mounted electric projection screens are the most common type of motorized screen available. All screens under this category can be mounted to a wall, and most will have brackets to mount to the ceiling as well.
  • On-Ceiling (Visible): – On Ceiling, or ceiling mounted electric projection screens will all come with brackets that allow for mounting to the surface of your ceiling. The casing of the screen will be visible.
  • In-Ceiling (Recessed): – Recessed electric projection screens can be hidden in the ceiling for the cleanest installation possible. While most screens in this category will come with everything you need to recess your screen into the ceiling, some models like the Draper Targa and Da-Lite Cosmopolitan can only be recessed by purchasing a ceiling trim kit. You can find pricing and other information for these trim kits under the accessories tab for each of these screens. Please be sure to read the description of the screen to verify whether or not you’ll need the kit.
  • Hard Wired: – Select this option to see only hard wired projection screen options. Hard wired screens are wired directly to the power in your wall similar to a ceiling fan and are controlled by an included wall switch that must also be wired to the motor. Optional remote controls are available under the accessories tab for each screen. This is the most common wiring option.
  • Plug-In: – Select this option to see only plug-in projection screens. Plug-in screens are plugged in to a standard power outlet and operated by an “in-line” switch on the power cord or by an included remote control.
  • Tensioned: – Select this option if you want to view only tensioned projection screens. Tensioned electric screens provide a flat viewing surface for the best picture quality. Tension is applied to the right and left hand sides of the screen by two wires that run through loops sewn on the sides of the fabric.
  • Large Venue: – Select this option to view only models available in large sizes to accommodate auditoriums, large church sanctuaries, or lecture halls.

Pull Down Screens:

  • Wall Mounted – Wall mounted pull down projection screens are the most common type of manual screen available. All screens under this category can be mounted to a wall, and most will have brackets to mount to the ceiling as well.
  • On-Ceiling (Visible): – On Ceiling, or ceiling mounted pull down projection screens will all come with brackets that allow for mounting to the surface of your ceiling. A special “T-bar Scissor” or “Twist Clip” accessory will need to be purchased if you’re mounting to a false (tiled) ceiling. The casing of the screen will be visible.
  • Safe Retract: – Select this option to view only screens that come with a safe retraction option. Named as “CSR” (Controlled Screen Return) by Da-Lite and “AutoReturn” by Draper, all safe retraction screens have a built-in braking mechanism inside the casing that assists with the return of the fabric back in to the housing of the screen. This is a great option if you have tall ceilings or if you’re not able to reach the screen casing when retracting the screen.
  • Tensioned: Tensioned pull down screens offer a slightly flatter image than a standard pull down screen.
  • Large Venue: – Select this option to view only models available in large sizes to accommodate auditoriums, large church sanctuaries, or lecture halls.

Portable Screens:

  • Tripod: – Select this option to view only portable screens that set up on to a tripod stand. Tripod screens are fairly light weight at smaller sizes, fairly easy to setup and travel with, and are inexpensive compared to other portable screen options.
  • Ultra-Light: – All models in this category are the lightest weight models you can find in their respective sizes. While slightly more expensive than tripod projection screens, all of our ultra-light models are much easier to set up and are much lighter and more compact making them easier to travel with.
  • Table Top: – Select this option to view only table top projection screens. Table top screens are very lightweight and portable, but only come in very small viewing sizes.
  • Inflatable: – Choose this option to see only inflatable projection screens. Inflatable or “blow-up” screens are great for outdoor events.
  • Large Venue: – Select this option to view only models available in large sizes to accommodate auditoriums, large church sanctuaries, or lecture halls. Most options in this category come with a folding frame and a durable shipping case.

Fixed Wall Screens:

  • Unfinished Frame: – Unfinished frame permanent wall projection screens come with a 1″ thick aluminum framing that is attached directly to the wall. The screen surface is attached to the front of the frame with snaps that are sewn in to the black border around the viewing area of the screen. This is a popular choice for churches, nightclubs, or if you plan to build your own framing for the screen.
  • Finished Frame: – Finished frame permanent wall projection screens come with a black powder coated or optional black velvet finish frame. The frame is hung on the wall similar to a picture frame and the viewing surface is attached to the back (wall side) of the frame by snaps or Velcro attachments. A finished frame projection screen looks much cleaner and more professional than an unfinished version and it’s a much more popular option for home theaters.
  • Built-in Speakers: – Fixed frame screens with built-in speakers are a great 2-in-1 option for your home theater.
  • Large Venue: – Select this option to view only models available in large sizes to accommodate auditoriums, large church sanctuaries, or lecture halls.

Once you’ve selected the style and sub-category, you can refine your search by room size, budget, brand, or viewing option.

Room Size:

Narrow your options down by seeing all models that fit into your room size. Keep in mind that some screens are available in a wide range of sizes and will show up in more than one room size option.

Budget:

Choosing a budget will help to narrow down your options. All of our screens are listed in a budget range relative to the type of screen that they are. For example, you’ll see a “low budget” pull down projection that costs $45 in the same group as a “low budget” motorized screen that costs $500. As with room size, the pricing on some screens can vary depending on the size you choose, so you’ll see them appear in more than one budget option.

Brand:

Do you have a favorite screen manufacturer? Choose to see all of the options from Da-Lite Screen Company, Draper Inc, or Encore Screens.

Front/Rear Projection:

If you need a translucent screen for rear projection, you can really help narrow down your choices by selecting “rear”.

We hope that you’ll find this new tool helpful in your search for the right screen, but we know that it can never substitute our professional help over the phone. If you need any help at all, please call us at 1-888-686-05510 to speak with one of our screen experts.

Focused Technology Flat Panel Mount Finder http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/03/16/focused-technology-flat-panel-mount-finder/ http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/03/16/focused-technology-flat-panel-mount-finder/#comments Tue, 16 Mar 2010 22:01:21 +0000 Administrator http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/?p=248 Choosing the correct mount for your new LED, LCD, or plasma flat panel can be a confusing task. Buying a mount is usually secondary to buying the TV, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t also take the time and save the money by purchasing your wall mount online instead from the big box store.

We know that there are quite a few options to choose from so we’ve made the hunt a little easier with our Flat Panel Mount Finder. This a great way to narrow down your options if you already have an idea for what type of mount you need. If you’re just getting started, here is a quick guide explaining each type of mount and their pros and cons.

What are the different types of flat panel mounts? What type of flat panel mount is best for me?

Flat Wall Mount: – This is most basic type of wall mount and are available with universal arms that come in varying sizes to fit a range of sizes of TV’s or “VESA” patterns for smaller TV’s and monitors. Flat wall mounts are inexpensive, easy to install, and provide a very clean and flush mount to your wall. This is obviously not the best choice if you need to see one TV from different spots in the room or if you have a high installation like above a fireplace mantel.

Tilting Wall Mount: – Tilt mounts for flat panels are installed and mounted to your panel the exact same way that a flat wall mount is installed and mounted, making it another affordable, easy option. The tilting arms are great for installations high up on the wall or above a fireplace. A tilt mount will not mount as flush to the wall as a flat wall mount since there will need to be some clearance when you make the adjustments, and of course, this is still not an option if you need to view the TV from different locations in your room.

Articulating Arm Mounts: Arm mounts for flat panels, with two adjustable “arms” and three pivoting points, give you the ultimate flexibility. You can mount flat to the wall, tilt, pivot side-to-side up to a full 90 degrees, or extend from the wall …all in one mount. This is great for the kitchen, game room, multipurpose room, or even your bathroom! Arm mounts only connect with “VESA” pattern plates. This means that unlike Flat or Tilting mounts, you may need to purchase a custom attachment plate for larger panels. You can verify the one you need, if any, by using the manufacturer’s online cross reference tool or just call one of our sales reps to check for you. 1-888-686-0551.

Pivoting Arm Wall Mounts: Pivot arm mounts for flat panels offer much of the same flexibility as an articulating mount with only one arm and two pivot points. This is great option if you need a less expensive alternative to an articulating mount and a full 90 degree side-by-side is not needed.

As always, if you still have questions about your needs, you can always call one of our experts to discuss your options. 1-888-686-0551.

InFocus IN102 and IN104 DLP Available at a Great Price with Long Warranty http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/03/08/infocus-in102-and-in104-dlp-available-at-a-great-price-with-long-warranty/ http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/03/08/infocus-in102-and-in104-dlp-available-at-a-great-price-with-long-warranty/#comments Mon, 08 Mar 2010 21:04:35 +0000 Administrator http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/?p=242 The InFocus IN102 DLP Projector and InFocus IN104 DLP Projector have just been released in the entry level, education and government markets. The InFocus IN100 series offers all of the essential
functions and features presenters need in an affordable, reliable projector. It’s easy to use and projects high-quality images every time thanks to the true-to-life colors of Texas Instruments DLP® technology with InFocus BrilliantColor™ implementation.

At only 5 lbs, the IN102 or IN104 would make a great traveling projector for business roadwarriors and trade shows. Both models include a soft carrying case to make travel easier. The IN100 Series can even connect wirelessly to your laptop using the InFocus Liteshow II Wireless Adapter.

Maintenance should be no problem with the filter-free design and 24/7 use is also possible. Keep in mind that you will get about 3000 hours from the lamp on either model, but the lamp for IN102 costs almost $200 more, so the IN104 would be more economical in the long run especially in a 24/7 application.

All of this is backed by the InFocus 5 year limited warranty which includes a 2 year parts and labor warranty.

This a very simple and straightforward option for school classrooms and boardrooms.

Short Throw Lens – Integrated short throw lens enables projection onto a large screen from a short distance. This allows for more effective presentations in small meeting rooms or classrooms where space is limited. Project onto a 60-inch diagonal screen from 4ft away!

Of course the all-in-one iP-01UE will also projector PC and video images – All standard PC and video formats can be projected to a large screen regardless of manufacturer or operating system. Furthermore, a 5W speaker is also built-in for listening to the associated audio.

Make a presentation without carrying a PC – Materials created on a computer can be stored on a USB memory device, plugged directly into the projector and presented. In reverse, image from the built-in document camera can be stored on a USB memory can carried back to the PC.

These models are now shipping from Focused Technology. Call for details.

Da-Lite’s Studio Electrol Now Shipping http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/02/17/da-lites-studio-electrol-now-shipping/ http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/02/17/da-lites-studio-electrol-now-shipping/#comments Wed, 17 Feb 2010 22:26:57 +0000 Administrator http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/?p=234 The Da-Lite Studio Electrol, recently added to Da-Lite’s electric screen lineup, offers a unique feature set. With a minimum available viewing area width of 312″, there is no doubt that the Studio Screen is intended only for large conference room, large church sanctuary, auditorium, gymnasium, or multi-use room installations. One unique feature is the adjustable mounting brackets for ceiling or wall installation. All other screens in this size are designed for ceiling or chain mounting only, so this could be your best option if you require a very large screen and a ceiling installation is not desired or possible.

Another nice feature is the built-in radio frequency remote control system. It’s an industry standard to only include a wall switch with hard wired screens, and RF remotes typically run well over $300. It’s a small bargain considering the premium price of this screen, but it’s nice to see a manufacturer include something that many people would expect to come standard with an electric screen.

Optoma Shocks the 1080p Projector Market Again with the EH1020 http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/02/03/optoma-shocks-the-1080p-projector-market-again-with-the-eh1020/ http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/02/03/optoma-shocks-the-1080p-projector-market-again-with-the-eh1020/#comments Wed, 03 Feb 2010 22:30:45 +0000 Administrator http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/?p=193 Optoma already has a firm hold on the Full HD (1920×1080) projector market. The Optoma HD20 is a great low end unit, selling for only $999. The TX1080 DLP Projector is their 3600 lumen powerhouse that sells for a 1/3 of the price of competing models. With the release of the new EH1020, Optoma has virtually cornered the market on low cost, high output native 1080p projectors. At street prices of $1,499.00 (on sale at Focused Technology for $1,399), the Optoma EH1020 is the only projector on the market with it’s same feature set for under $2,000.00. And besides Optoma’s own TX1080, it’s the only model under $5k with 3000+ lumens and 1920×1080 native resolution. Optoma appears to be marketing this model to business customers with large, high ambient light conference rooms. Based on the specs, we think it would also be a great choice for high definition or Blu-Ray videos in a bar or nightclub, church sanctuary, or in home theaters with high ambient light or a fairly large screen size. Fortunately, you will no longer have to sacrifice resolution for brightness or vice versa.

3D Projection in Your Home http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/01/27/3d-projection-in-your-home/ http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/2010/01/27/3d-projection-in-your-home/#comments Wed, 27 Jan 2010 23:52:35 +0000 Administrator http://blog.focusedtechnology.com/?p=185 With the boom in 3D movies at commercial theaters, there has been a lot of buzz recently about 3D projection in your home. Fortunately for those of you that are ready to add a 3rd dimension to your home theater experience, 3D projection in your home is now a reality. The technology is still very new, with new information being released daily. We hope that this FAQ will help you get started and we plan to continually update as new information comes up. For now, the basics:

What equipment do I need to do 3D projection?

  • A 3D Compatible Projector or 3D Compatible Plasma or LCD Display – Technically speaking, a projector or display only needs to have the ability to display an image with a 120 hz refresh rate to work with 3D. That being mentioned, you shouldn’t have to work too hard to figure which ones work with 3D, since it should be stated clearly in the main features of the projector or display.
  • A 3D Source – You will need a DVD player or Blu-Ray player that is compatible with 3D content. Firmware upgrades will be available to allow recently purchased players to work with 3D content, but only on select models. A computer with a graphics card specifically designed for 3D content will also work.
  • 3D Content – For your DVD and Blu-Ray player, you must have 3D specific DVD’s or Blu-Ray Discs along with your 3D sources. For computers, there are some 3D gaming titles coming out as well as some 3D educational content. 3D broadcast TV is also right around the corner. ESPN is planning on a dedicated 3D channel and plans to broadcast the World Cup in 3D.
  • Special 3D Glasses – And not your daddy’s cardboard glasses either. You will need special wireless stereoscopic 3D glasses that receive signals to produce the 3D image real-time. If you’re estimating your budget, keep in mind that these glasses run from $150-$200, and of course every viewer will need a pair.
  • Proper Cabling – There is a new HDMI 1.4 Cable standard to will accommodate 3D. Some higher end manufacturers’ cables that exceeded the previous standards will work, but older, lower quality HDMI cables will need to be replaced. Fortunately, HDMI regulators are going to force cable manufacturers to specifically list what functions the new HDMI 1.4 cables are capable of on the packaging, so it will be easy to see whether the cable you’re getting will work.

Can I watch my regular DVD/Blu-Ray Discs in 3D on a 3D projector or 3D plasma / LCD Display?
Unfortunately, no. Only specifically made 3D content will come out in 3D. And of course you’ll need everything else listed above, too.

Can I watch my regular TV programming in 3D on a 3D projector or 3D plasma / LCD Display?
Not as of this writing, but as mentioned above, ESPN is working on it and other networks are sure to follow suit once 3D picks up in popularity.

What projectors will work with 3D content?
In order to display 3D content, a projector needs to have a 120hz refresh rate. Here are some current models that we carry that will work with 3D content:

Mitsubishi XD600U DLP Projector – $1,695.00

Viewsonic FuHzion PJD6220-3D DLP Projector for 3D Projection – $699.00
